NUSA LEMBONGAN

So a couple of weeks ago I went to Nusa Lembongan and it was absolutely amazing. I had already heard quite some good stories about the island, which made me curious enough to go there myself. A friend of mine came over to visit me so we had a good excuse to do some exploring and visit Nusa Lembongan during one of my long weekends.

We booked our return ticket to the island for 375k (around 25 euros) including a transfer from and to Jimbaran. It took us 30 minutes to get there, which in my opinion is pretty fast compared to the almost three hour boat ride to Gilis.

Once we got there, the island turned out bigger than I expected. They told us it was impossible to get around the island without a motorcycle, which I didn’t expect at all. We got a free taxi ride with this cute pick up truck that brought us to our hotel in less than 15 minutes.  We booked two nights at The Tanis Villas, a very cute complex located directly on the beach. I defenitely recommend this place because of its lovely staff and great facilities. They’ll do everything to help you and most important: I didn’t spot any cockroaches or other unwanted guests during my stay.

Since we arrived early we decided to rent two motorcycles and explore the rest of the island. We payed 100k (7 euros) per motorcycle for a 30 hour rental period including gas, which in my opinion was quite a good deal.

We drove off towards Nusa Ceningan, an island attached to Nusa Lembongan with a very cute bridge as you can see below.    Within 30 minutes we reached ‘Blue Lagoon’ and the ‘Viewing Point’ and I inmediately understood why they call it Blue Lagoon. The water I saw there was the most bluest water I’ve ever seen in my life and yes, I went to quite some places. Usually you can jump off the cliff into the ocean but since the water was quite wild this was unfortunately forbidden.

We walked around for a bit and made lots of photos before we headed back to our motorcycles. I think it cost us something like 10k (0.70 eurocents) to get in but that was defenitely worth it. I do recommend to go there during low tide so there’s a bigger chance you can do some cliff jumping.    On our way back we passed some very big Seaweed Farms. Yes that’s right, farms where they produce and dry seeweed. On our way to Nusa Lembongan I already read some tips on TripAdvisor about these farms but I had no idea what to expect really.

If you take a close look at the picture below you can kind of see the structure of the farms, which were very straight and geometrical. I do have to say that the smell wasn’t too good but well, I guess that’s part of the deal. Seeing these farms is rather interesting so visiting them during your stay is defenitely a must!   During the second day of our stay in Nusa Lembongan we booked a snorkeling tour at our hotel (I think you can book this anywhere actually). We left at 8 o’clock in the morning because they said that during the morning we had the biggest chance to see most fish.

During our snorkeling tour we made three stops. The first one was at a beautifull coral with lots of nice fish. As I mentioned in my last post, these corals where the most beautiful ones I had even seen. Also we spotted many Finding Nemo fish and even saw some rainbow colored ones.

Our second spot was close to a tourist attraction where they could feed the fish some corn. Once we got in we saw these huuuge black fishes flying through the water to get their hands on the corn. They were so big that I actually got kinda scared and didn’t dare to come too close. The third spot was again beautiful but once I spotted some jellyfish I had enough and we returned to the hotel.    Once we got back we went to Dream Beach where we spent the rest of our day hanging in and around the infinity pool. For diner I had a delicious green prawn curry, which I really recommend to anyone that likes curries and prawns, haha.

The next day it was already time to go back to Bali again. We had a great time in Nusa Lembongan and I really recommend this place if you are seeking for some relaxation and rest. As for going out and socialising, Nusa Lembongan isn’t really the place you should go. If you are more into that then probably Gilis is more what you are looking for!
